are following breaking news out of downtown oakland. police are investigating a fatal shooting. christien kafton is live for us. >> reporter: let me tell you this is a large crime scene. it's spread out over five blocks here in downtown oakland. right now alameda county coroners office is on scene here just about to load the victim into a van to remove him from this scene. there was a very expensive sports car just about seven or eight minutes ago that expensive sports car was towed out of the area. we have video of what the scene looked like earlier. police say they responded to the scene around 3:00 this morning and found the dead man in the street with numerous shell casings around him. and there is another scene just about a block away with more shell casings there and a half block away again that very expensive sports car. it looked like ans aton martin vintage. that sports car is certainly part of this investigation. we saw investigators looking over it with flashlight and trying to get a little bit more information about that. as mike said a couple moments ago, this shooting happened when

in the next couple of months. nice to see. new video out of oakland where dozens of occupy protesters took ton the streets of the downtown area last night demanding change and damaging several banks in the area. police say nearly 50 protesters vandalized atm machines and smashed that window. they say the window is at the landmark tribune tower, the former home of the oakland tribune. right now, no word on arrests. >>> new this morning, sheriff deputies in napa county are investigating why a deadly officer involved shooting happened. the police tried to pull over a man driving a white pickup truck right around 10:00 last night. the driver refused to stop. then led police on a short chase. at some point authorities say the officers filed shots at the suspect near newell drive and that man died at the scene. right now, not many details why the officers opened fire. we do know no officers were hurt. >>> on the lookout for a suspected bank robber released from jail on a technicality. he is believed to be armed and dangerous. police arrested this man early this month accused of robbing a bank and ho

. serious accusations that could cost two oakland city council members their jobs. both elected officials are said to have used their power to influence city business. this news comes after an oakland city auditor released a report.which details improper behavior from 2009 to 2012. the council members accused there has been charges of sexual penetration of reminder of a drug to minor. hand and for this heed in 2006 and the coached baseball teams in oakland. i spoke with those not leave the schools under scrutiny. it was an administrative thidecision and they have not received any word on problems from parents at this time. >> new tonight of wrongdoing: desley brooks and larry reid. the audit claims there were 14 instances in which councilmembers or their aids violated the city's charter. among the findings: both are accused of directing staff members to use a specific contractor for the oakland army base demolition project. that contract.worth about 2 million dollars. the audit also alleges that one of reid's aids directed parking officials to fix two of the aid's personal parking tickets

television in the pedestrian bed of his truck. >> katie: thank you. >>> an oakland woman who was mugged after answering her front door is fighting back. the video showing her ordeal may be difficult to watch but oakland police are hoping it will inspire more victims to come forward. alan wang shows us what happened. >> reporter: the woman in this video has no idea she is being targeted by two young men who don't realize they are being caught on camera. the robbers stole her purse on east 17th street in oakland. they were exposed by surveillance cameras and police arrested them. >> investigators released this video in hopes there might be other victims out there who have not come forward yet. >> reporter: we went back to the same block and found a woman who says her purse was stolen and she was pistol whipped on the same day within the same hour as the woman in the video. >> i'm so scared they'll kill me. >> we showed her video of suspects. >> that is him, i'm sure it is him. >> reporter: the woman reported the incident when it happened but she didn't realize that her neighbor had been mugged.

is the latest victim of violence in oakland. police say he was shot to death around 3:00 this morning near ninth and clay street, just blocks away from police headquarters. the unidentified 37-year-old man was in his car when he apparently got into a dispute with people inside another vehicle. they began shooting at the man, who was hit, and then crashed his car. this mark's oak leappedz's 17th homicide of the year. last year at this time oakland had 4 homicides. >> a man hired to help the oakland police department imphlegm court ordered reforms will report for duty tomorrow. the man this department's new compliance director. he'll take on the task of reforming how police investigate themselves and document their work. the 68-year-old is a former baltimore police commissioner who served on the san jose police force. he can spend city funds, oversee top commanders and the chief and his deputies. >> in less than 48 hours the cardinals of the roman catholic church will cast their first ballot in the conclave to elect a new pope. reporter: from the pews, to the pulpit. >> , on this the second consec

mist on the windshield this morning. check out the visibility in oakland at quarter-mile visibility at half moon bay and a.5 in concord and napa. livermore shows no fog. if you are coming from oakland and headed to the bay bridge, this is what you will drive through, the bay bridge toll plaza, you can see how thick it is. you could have mist on the windshield. in san francisco it is 48 and oakland, and san jose at 50 and walnut creek at 49 and walnut creek at 44. in san jose, you can see it is clearer than it was this time yesterday, santa rosa 43 and fairfield and napa at 41 and livermore, 45 and gilroy if you live in union city dress for 48 degrees before you head out the door. today, faster sunshine and warmer temperatures and mild so watch out for the patchy fog. we have bay area rain and sierra snow but not until next week. it is not a big storm. it is something to look forward to. that is all we have right now. we have promises of future rain as we wiped down the rain and snow season. the south bay shows temperatures nearing 80 in los gatos and morgan hill and 74 in santa clar
